Bridport Community Orchard Management Plan

Guiding principles

TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR LIMITING OUR IMPACT

ON THE EARTHS RESOURCES

The Bridport Community Orchard Site, encompassing the fruit tree area, wildlife areas and allotments.

·         Will act as a model of a ‘Sustainable Community’ initiative, maximising benefit for people and wildlife and preserving local and national culture and heritage.

·         Will operate on a strictly organic basis, seeking to minimise the need for external resource input, naturally growing, harvesting. Reducing, reusing and recycling wherever possible.

Sustainability is: improving the quality of human life while living within

the carrying capacity of supporting eco-systems.

Text Box: The Sustainable Communities Act: Aims to promote the sustainability of local communities. It ‘begins from the principle that local people know best what needs to be done to promote the sustainability of their area, but that sometimes they need central government to act to enable them to do so’

CONTRIBUTING TO AN INCLUSIVE SOCIETY

The Bridport Community Orchard Site, encompassing the fruit tree area, wildlife areas and allotments.

·         Will act as a model for integrated mixed community land use, practising and promoting shared benefits of its activities wherever possible and creating a balance between environmental considerations and the need for all members of the community to enjoy the site.

The Social model of disability: individuals with impairments are not disabled by their impairments but by the barriers that exist in society

which do not take into account their needs.
